Governor Evers approves US 10 improvements in Calumet County

Pavement resurfacing begins September 16

(Calumet County) To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers signed a $2.7 million contract to improve 8.7 miles of US 10 From WIS 114 in Menasha to WIS 32/57 in Forrest Junction in Calumet County. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 16 and finish in late October 2019. A short-term closure and detour of US 10 will take place at the beginning of construction for resurfacing of a roundabout in the project limits. The highway will be open to traffic for the remaining construction.

Northeast Asphalt Inc., of Greenville Wis. is the prime contractor.

Project improvements

Work consists of milling and overlaying the existing asphaltic surface of US 10 in the project limits. This includes the roundabout at the US 10 and County N intersection. Resurfacing of the roundabouts at US 10/WIS 55 and US 10/WIS 32/57 are NOT included in this project. The paved shoulders will be widened from three feet to five feet, and centerline and shoulder rumble strips will be applied to the new pavement surface.

Traffic impacts

A short-term detour of approximately two weeks (weather dependent) will be posted beginning Monday, Sept. 16 for resurfacing at the US 10/County N roundabout. Access to properties will be maintained at all times.

  • Detour: US 10 will be detoured via WIS 114 and WIS 55. County N will be detoured via WIS 114, WIS 55 and County KK.

For the remainder of the project, US 10 will remain open to traffic. Temporary single-lane closures with flaggers will be utilized during daylight hours during construction operations.

Project benefits

This project will provide a smoother riding surface and increase the usable lifespan of the current section of pavement. Safety will also be increased with new centerline and shoulder rumble strips and wider paved shoulders.

Work Zone Safety

Each year in Wisconsin, both highway workers and motorists are killed and injured in crashes that happen in highway construction zones. Motorists should slow down, be patient and pay attention to their surroundings in this and all work zones.
